Dear Target,

Please stop killing me softly.

Thanks,
Cheyne

I just bought this.

this is your brain

There is a predictable, although sometimes still surprising, cycle to this kind of life. There may be balance over a long period of time, but most days I can't see it.

There are days where I feel like this:

and inevitably, there are days when i feel like this:

I mean, if there had been a bon iver video, I guess I would have posted it.

One is impossible without the other. They are two sides to the same coin. Each one fully encompassing, each one new every time, each one both unavoidable and necessary.

NX35: A Whole Lotta Beard

Hear ye, hear ye! Wanting to hit up SXSW but can't afford being around the Austin crazies? You might want to plan on settling for the DENTON, slightly-less-nutso-and-not-as-expensive-crazies. Those bearded Denton kids are creating the new NX35 - a music festival boasting 9 venues centered on the square. March 12-15th.
And here's the kicker: art/craft FOUR DAY event. Yep, we'll be selling our goods to rock stars and the beautiful people coming to check in for the event at the Civic Center. Thursday-Sunday 9am-7pm or something like that, details later. Until then, you can check out their blog at www.nx35.com

There should be some awesome vendors out there. I said "we'll be selling" didn't I? If three is company, five is boozy party! Myself, Pamela Michelle, Dowdy Studio, Tara to the T, and Texas Tarts are joining forces to create a mega-booth. So now you have at least six reasons to come out. The sixth is the music, of course.

Denton, it's time you and I reunited. It's been almost a year since Alter Ego Vintage closed and I miss you, dearly.

LeaSeguin

If you're needing a photograph for your breakfast nook, look no further: LeaSequin takes beautiful photographs all of which promote a wonderful sense of peace and calm. She's also a patron of many fellow Etsians, which always wins points with me! My favorite is, of course, "Writer's Block."

tis the season for completely obnoxious public displays of affection

I simply adore the blog, LeLove . It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. I used to believe valentine's day was soooooo lame. That may or may not have anything to do with the fact that I've only been able to celebrate it with someone ONCE (last year). Before then, I adopted Joel's mentality of "[it is] a holiday invented by a greeting card company." That's still the case, BUT! I like to enjoy the lovey dovey AND the "I stuck my fingers together with glue whilst making my friend a doily heart valentine card" sides of things. I actually liked making a valentine's display with pink fabric hearts. AND my awesome mom ALWAYS gives out little gifts. All that stuff is not so bad.
BTW, Eternal Sunshine is an excellent Valentine's Day movie.

On an unrelated note, I've been dealing with fits of compulsive cleaning and purging. There is an entire truckload of unnecessary junk piled in my room, waiting for the death march to Salvation Army. Hopefully, it will all find a lovely second (or in some cases third, or even fifth) life. After Thomas finished tiling the bathroom floor, I suddenly felt suffocatingly claustrophobic. The need to get rid of things and then clean vigorously far outweighed the need to work in the studio.

Made by Mavis

My thumbs are usually kind of red, not so much green. This fact makes these terrariums from Made by Mavis all that much more adorable. Made by Mavis keeps an etsy shop with little terrariums ranging in price from $26-$68 in various shapes, sizes and styles. If I still lived in a tiny apartment with no yard, I would have to buy one, myself. Now, I live in a little house with a big, messy yard. These neat little lawns are inspiring me to fix that problem. Hmmm, dare to dream!

new most favorite ever shirt.

My new shirt brings all the girls to the yard...and they're like, OHMYGOD MORE MATRYOSHKA DOLLS!?

This is the first thing I've made in a very long time that really excited me. I had some easing issues with the curves but they ended up perfect, had to alter the sleeves and bust for my huge ex-kayaker shoulders, and I learned a hard lesson about the necessity of a good bra - hey, I haven't worn a fitted shirt in tooooo long. But after the cursing was over, I knew I had a beautiful shirt. I'm making it in to a dress, next weekend. and then one in every color.

I was super excited to find a way to incorporate my favorite Japanese fabric without inciting riots or seizures. Expect more of that.
